In fact, injuries to the front upper teeth account for the majority of dental trauma caused by sport.

Custom vs. Over-the-Counter Mouthguards
There are several types of mouthguards available, but the level of protection they offer varies significantly:
Store-Bought (Boil-and-Bite)
Available from chemists or sporting goods stores, these are moulded at home. However, they often:
- Feel bulky or uncomfortable
- Offer limited shock absorption
- Do not stay securely in place during sport
- Make it harder to breathe or speak
The Australian Dental Association does not recommend store-bought guards for high-contact or competitive sports.
Custom-Fitted Mouthguards
Created by a dentist from a mould of your teeth, these provide:

We take an accurate mould of your upper teeth for a precise, secure fit. - Lab Fabrication
Your mouthguard is made in a dental lab using high-grade, impact-resistant materials. - Fitting & Review
Once the guard is ready (typically within a few days), we check it in the mouth to ensure comfort and fit, and provide instructions for care and storage. - Ongoing Monitoring
For children and teens, we recommend reviewing the fit regularly — especially as teeth grow or braces are added or removed.
